Azimuth versus Mezcal: evidence and unknowns
This is an evidence-status page, not a hands-on comparison or a recommendation ranking. No first-party Mezcal release documentation is verified in this guide as of 2026-10-24. That limitation is not proof that no such documentation exists.
The Azimuth itch page supplies a public release and requirements. The Extra Options README is concrete but indirect evidence for Mezcal: it gives distinct Azimuth and Mezcal installation instructions and describes them as different translation layers. It is documentation for a mod, not Mezcal's own support matrix.

The install paths are not interchangeable
Extra Options places its Azimuth files beside azimuth.exe, while its Mezcal files go in Forza Horizon 2\Mount beside forza_durango_release_final.exe. This establishes what that mod author instructs, not Mezcal's supported games, safety, ownership or performance. Follow the Azimuth Extra Options guide for the Azimuth path.
What cannot be ranked from these sources
There is no verified Mezcal version, requirements list, license, game-support matrix, online-feature list or reproducible benchmark in this guide. Claims that it runs more Forza games or performs worse are not adopted as facts. A substantive comparison needs first-party release documentation and equivalent test conditions.

Questions
Should I download Mezcal instead?
This guide has no verified first-party Mezcal release, requirements or benchmark to support a recommendation. Azimuth has a verifiable itch.io source. A separate mod's Mezcal instructions do not authenticate a Mezcal download.
Does "native" mean Azimuth recompiled the game?
Players argue about the word native. The developer's description is a wrapper that runs the existing x86-64 game code. That is the wording this site uses.
